
Combine soy sauce, sugar, whiskey, sesame oil, sesame seeds, minced garlic, puréed onion, grated Asian pear, and ginger in a large bowl.
Add the Kobe prime rib, ensuring it's fully coated. Refrigerate for at least 12 hours or overnight.
Preheat a char grill or barbecue to high heat and place a cast-iron pan on the grill to preheat.
Add butter and sliced onion to the pan.
Grill the short ribs to your preferred level of doneness, approximately 2 minutes per side for medium-rare.
Cut the kobe prime rib into bite-size pieces (one bone per piece) and place them over the butter-sautéed onion.
Garnish with cilantro and serve with steamed rice on the side.
